Sarawak MPs first to meet Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak this morning kicked off his highly anticipated meeting with 137 Barisan Nasional (BN) Members of Parliament by meeting three MPs from Sarawak, at Putra World Trade Centre.

First up were MPs of Mas Gading, Tiki Lafe, Santubong’s Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Petra Jaya’s Fadillah Yusof.

The roundtable session between Najib, BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and the three MPs lasted for 15 minutes where everyone were given five minutes each to air their views and grouses at their respective constituency.

Batang Lupar MP Rohani Karim who also met Najib told reporters that during the session, she managed to channel problems and issues in her constituency, directly to the prime minister.

“PM heard my feedback and I told him the issues faced by the people in my constituency,” she said.

Yesterday, Najib, who is also BN chairman, said that the meeting was an effort towards creating a political transformation that he had announced before.

Najib said that the meeting was also geared towards the general election because “we want to be re-elected and we want to serve the people”.

“It is a normal meeting. They want to meet me and I want to meet them to know the situation in their constituencies. This is a move towards the process of political transformation.

“I need to tell them what to do and I need to know their views,” he said when asked about the meeting.

However, not all MPs are expected to attend the meeting since some ministers and deputy ministers are abroad on official duty.

Speculations have been rife that the 13th general election could be held in mid-year, June or July, or held simultaneously with the Sarawak state election that must be held before July.
