Selangor Sultan chose Khusrin from 3 qualified candidates: Chief Secretary

(Star) Datuk Mohd Khusrin Munawi was one of three qualified candidates chosen by the civil service and presented to the Selangor Sultan, out of courtesy, for his consideration and consent.

The ruler chose Khusrin, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan in a statement on Wednesday.

He said that no law or procedure required the Public Service Department to consult the Sultan or the Mentri Besar. It was done out of courtesy, he said.

He said that a letter dated Nov 23 listing the three candidates was also sent to the then state secretary for the Selangor state government’s consideration and consent, out of courtesy.

He also stressed that the federal government, including the prime minister, had no input in the selection process.

The appointment was made according to provisions of the Federal Constitution, the Selangor Constitution and Promotion Board of the Civil Service Regulations 2010, with elements of consultation with the Selangor Government through the State Secretary, Datuk Ramli Mahmud.

"In this appointment, I did not take any political input and did not refer to anyone in the federal administration, including the Prime Minister.

"The exercise was carried out professionally, involving only the Chief Secretary to the Government (and the Promotions Board) and the Selangor Government," he said in a statement.

THE SELANGOR SULTAN CLAIMS, FROM REPORTS, THAT HE JUST ACCEPTED THE CANDIDATE RECOMMENDED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SINCE HE IS 'POWERLESS'.
