PETALING JAYA - The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has reminded all parties not to misconstrue his decision to give his consent to hold the state legislative assembly sitting on Jan 24 as politically motivated.
“I hope the sitting will proceed in a proper manner according to the rules. And I hope, by exercising the rights of signing the proclamation, my action will not be misconstrued as supporting any parties.
“I hope no irresponsible or politically motivated people will try to drag me into politics,” the Sultan said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Sultan has consented to the holding of the state assembly sitting and signed the proclamation on Jan 14 under Article LXX (1) and LV (1) of the state constitution.
The sitting is being convened to make amendments to the constitution giving the Sultan and Mentri Besar power to decide on the appointment of the state secretary, financial officer and legal adviser.
