KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 20 — The Terengganu government today announced an allocation of RM3 million to Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen for various constituency projects.
The amount is an increase of RM600,000 from the previous year’s allocation, said Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said in a Bernama report today.
BN is represented by 24 lawmakers in the 32-member state assembly, while PAS controls the remaining eight seats.
The announcement came just over a week after the Selangor government allocated RM1 million to Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lawmakers for similar purposes ahead of a possible general election.
Ahmad said today that out of the total amount, RM1 million is for minor projects, RM500,000 for general assistance and roof replacement work, RM330,000 for the construction of 10 new houses while RM200,000 is allocated for general repairs.
“There is an increase compared to last year’s allocation when we only gave RM500,000 for minor projects while only RM400,000 was allocated for general assistance,” he told reporters here.
Just last week, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim announced that RM1 million has been allocated to each PR representative for constituency projects, but not to the state BN opposition.
Recently, PSM Sungai Siput MP Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj sued the federal government for not allocating funds to his constituency.
The special allocation announcements from the two states come as Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to call for snap polls during the last quarter of this year.
At a meeting with BN federal lawmakers early this month, Najib had asked the BN MPs to list the projects in their constituencies that had not taken off. - Malaysian Insider
