KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak met with 118 Barisan Nasional (BN) division leaders today as part of the political transformation process he had promised, as the main agenda for his ruling coalition.

“I had already met with Barisan Nasional MPs, with Sarawak BN Aduns, and this time it is the division leaders, who are not Members of Parliaments, to get a chance to express their problems which they are facing that can assist us in our efforts to fight for the people and on top of that, to listen to them, if there are any internal problems,” he told reporters during a break between meeting the leaders at the Putra World Trade Centre.

Division leaders from each state were given about 30 minutes to meet with the prime minister and to lay out their concerns and problems within their constituencies.

“I realised that such session is extremely useful although it takes up a lot of time,” he said jokingly complained that he had been sitting in the same position for the past five hours.

“With this, we can determine what the government can do to help solve these problems,” he said.

Najib said the complaints range from problems with small projects, some had infrastructure problems, while some talked about community needs such as hospitals and schools.

“I am acknowledging first, we are taking down notes of the issues that were brought up, some even brought memorandums. So we are collecting all these and we will filter which we can solve in the short-term, and which may need a longer time.

“We will consider, according to our ability. Not every single problem and complaint can be solved in a short period of time because we do not have the financial ability to solve every single problem and the people’s demand but we will try to prioritise based on our ability,” he said.

He acknowledged that there are internal problems and that he has advised accordingly on what should be done so the ruling coalition can be more united among the division leaders.

“But they are not as dire as other parties. No one has left Umno yet for example, but we try to rectify any misunderstandings among the division leaders,” he said, hinting at the number resignations of PKR’s members as well as some of its leaders.

“We cannot solve 100 per cent of the problems but we can amend them, as long as they do not affect the division’s ability.

“In a democratic system, there is competition. That is a reality that we cannot avoid it but we have to manage this issue so it will be minimised or at least it won’t affect the flow of the administration and governing at the division level,” he said.

When asked for specifics, Najib refused to divulge any information and insisted that such matters should be dealt with internally. - Malaysian Insider
