PD Assemblyman to sue MPPD over parking summonses

An assemblyman who assumed he could park for free anywhere in the state is fuming over two parking summonses issued to him by the Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD).

Port Dickson assemblyman M. Ravi now wants to take the MPPD to court for issuing him two summonses if they do not apologise to him within three days.

Each summons carries a RM100 fine and was issued to Ravi for failing to display parking coupons.

“They (MPPD) have three days to apologise or I will take them to court,” he said.

“When they issued me a summons on Jan 27, I thought it was a mistake.

“However, the MPPD issued another one on Feb 9, although I had explained to the officer that being an assemblyman, I was entitled to park for free.”

Ravi said the officer then told him that he should have the words “YB Port Dickson” displayed prominently on his vehicle to park for free.

“That was the most ridiculous remark that I have ever heard. I go to Seremban five times a week and as many times to other districts but never encountered such a problem,” he said, adding that it was unfortunate that some council officers were not aware of the ruling.

When contacted, several assemblymen said that although they were exempted from having to pay parking charges, this was not mentioned in the state by-laws.

Ravi said he had discussed the matter with his lawyer, who advised him to initiate legal action against the MPPD.
