ARREST DATUK T, AND DON’T FORGET THE REPORTERS AND EDITORS!

By Reina

In Malaysia, you are free to take pictures or videos of your naked self or while doing sexual acts. But the minute you distribute these pictures or video clips or screen them in public places, that’s when the law kicks in and it is deemed a criminal offence.

This is where Datuk T, the man who called the media for a special press conference to show the Anwar sex video in such a clandestine manner, should be arrested.

Arrest him!

Let’s take this argument a little further: what do you do to the media practitioners who report the whole event? Shouldn’t the reporters who went to cover the special screening of the video for the media at Carcosa Seri Negara and the editors who allowed the story to be disseminated to the rest of the country be held liable for the same criminal offence?

Last Monday, the media was privileged to attend a sex video screening party. They viewed
it, and reported about it. The proof is all over the new and mainstream media. The media not only condoned a criminal act, they were a crucial component in publicising the whole episode!

Arrest all the reporters, editors and the top management for making a mockery of the laws in this country.

In a new development, the Malaysia Chronicle reported that a senior Harakah Daily reporter was personally invited by a senior The Star reporter to make sure he attends the special sex video screening and that the PAS leadership and Anwar are aware of the video. (Click here to read about it.)

One of the commentators even mentioned who the reporter was.

Looks like the media are no longer merely reporting but are now part of the news-making process. Which is only a good thing if the media play the part of a watchdog and not take the law into their own hands.

What we have here is a media that think that they are above the law.
