PETALING JAYA: A PKR MP today revealed the identity of Datuk T and claimed that the exposé of a sex tape allegedly of Anwar Ibrahim was the work of Umno.
Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul identified the mysterious Datuk T as Kedah-based businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah.
Johari said that he was invited by Shazryl on Monday to view the sex video.
He said he was taken to Flamingo Hotel in Ampang to view the video in the presence of Umno veteran Rahim Thamby Chik.
“I instantly recognised Rahim who was in the room with another person whom I later recalled as Shazryl Eskay Abdullah,” he said at a press conference at the PKR headquarters today.
He said that throughout the video screening, Shazryl gave a narration to explain a few matters while Rahim chipped in now and then to disparage Anwar.
“After the screening, Rahim persuaded me to leave PKR and Anwar. He promised to bring me to see Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.
“He mentioned that he would take care of all my financial and security needs,” he added.
Also at the conference were PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution, and Youth leader Shamsul Akin, among others.
Physical attributes
Johari, however, said that he was convinced it was not Anwar in the sex video, adding that the physical attributes of the actor in the sex clip did not match Anwar’s.
He also said that the actor appeared as though he knew the act was being recorded.
Johari also claimed that Rahim attempted to entice him to get several other PKR parliamentarians to leave PKR.
He also quoted Rahim as saying: “I know you have influence in the party. Please bring other MPs for another screening. You see the thing. We had enough of Anwar.”
On the video, Johari said that the clip showed three characters: one man was well-dressed, another had a white towel wrapped around him and a naked woman.
“Initially, the woman performed oral sex. It was only when the man in white towel stripped and climbed onto the bed that we can see him having similarity to Anwar.”
However, after seeing the video, Johari said that the person depicted in the video was not Anwar.
“In the name of Allah, I can definitely say that it is not Anwar. What I saw was only a glimpse of someone who looked liked Anwar.”
“I can see the difference even though the video was in black and white.”
He added that the person in the video was “stocky with a big tummy, broader shoulder and fleshy buttocks”.
‘The boss’
Johari said that there was a considerable distance between the four cameras and the bed, which made it impossible to identify the actor as Anwar.
He also cast doubts on the location of the hotel on the grounds that the room did not look like something from within Malaysia.
“The bed was dilapidated and there was only one air-conditioner.”
Johari also said that Shazryl continuously referred to Anwar as “the boss”.
“If he was very close to Anwar, why didn’t he call and clarify with him (Anwar)?” he asked.
He also said Shazryl told him that he (Shazryl) was also in the same hotel and that he had intercourse with a woman in a room next to Anwar’s.
“You did it next door. So how can you ask him (Anwar) to step down on grounds of morality?” Johari asked.
Johari also revealed that he was first approached to watch the video by his uncle, Shuib Lazim, on March 15.
“He called me to watch to verify if it was really Anwar.”
Shuib was a former Umno senator from Kedah.
Reaction from Pakatan MPs
Johari also held a second press conference in Parliament later in the day, echoing the details of his first media briefing.
Several Pakatan parliamentarians reacted to Johari’s press conference and lashed out at Umno for its role in the sex tape.
Below are the reactions from these MPs:
Mahfuz Omar (PAS-Pokok Sena): The involvement of Rahim (Thamby Chik), who is the Risda president appointed by Najib, confirms he is behind this. Najib should apologise to Anwar, his family and the nation for shaming us and denting our image internationally .
Saifuddin Nasution (PKR-Machang): This episode has the involvement of three people: the Bukit Gantang Umno deputy chief, Rahim and Najib. Najib is involved because Rahim made the offer to Johari to meet with the PM and offered him money and security which confirms that the lies were started by Umno.
Kamaruddin Jaafar (PAS-Tumpat): This is yet another slanderous action by Umno. As the Sarawak and the general elections are near, we expect the attacks to escalate. This is not politics but something which is disgusting.
In another development, both Rahim and Shazryl held a press conference on the matter later this evening.
In the press conference, Rahim, the former Malacca CM, confirmed that Datuk T stood for ‘Datuk Trio’ – himself, Shazryl and Shuib, who is also a Perkasa top leader. - FMT
