KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 24 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s lawyers will call Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor as witnesses should Anwar be ordered to enter his defence in the Sodomy II trial.
“We will indicate this later on, after submissions have been presented by both parties . . . calling them as witnesses would be, could be necessary,” said defence counsel Karpal Singh.
Karpal told reporters that they would have to first interview Najib and Rosmah before calling them as witnesses.
“Our list of witnesses will include Najib, Rosmah and Dr Osman from Pusrawi hospital,” said Karpal.
The prosecution closed its case today after successfully tendering the items retrieved from the lock-up where Anwar was held overnight on July 16, 2008 — a towel, toothbrush and mineral water bottle as well as all DNA samples relating to the items.
Chemist Dr Nor Aidora Saedon and Supt Amidon Anan were called today to identify the items to be marked as exhibits.
Trial judge Datuk Mohd Zabidin Mohd Diah also dismissed the defence’s application in seeking a review of yesterday’s ruling, which ruled that Anwar’s arrest in 2008 was lawful, therefore allowing the items to be marked as exhibits.
The trial will resume on April 18 to allow both parties to present submissions for the case, where Mohd Zabidin will then decide on whether to order Anwar to present his defence.
