Ibrahim Ali 'proud' of calls for his arrest

“I feel GREAT”, said an exuberant Ibrahim Ali today in reaction to calls by detractors within both BN and the opposition for the police to take action against him under the Sedition Act 1948.

NONEIn a text-message sent to the press from his mobile phone, the Perkasa chief said he "welcomes" the remarks by Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar and feels “very proud” that DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang had reacted so strongly to him based on merely on online reports.

“They don't care to see the actual statement that I made at the press conference. When they get the chance, they just whack me", said the Independent Pasir Mas MP.

Khairy had in Parliament yesterday described Ibrahim's warning to Chinese Malaysians to stock up on provisions ahead of the July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally as "racist, seditious and dangerous" and said the Kelantan politician should at very least be investigated under the Sedition Act.

Kit Siang had challenged the government over its lack of action in the face of Ibrahim's threats of a 'holy war' and “treasonous allegations”

“Where is the rule of law?" the veteran opposition politician hadthundered yesterday in the Dewan Rakyat.

NONEMalaysian Bar Councilpresident Lim Chee Wee (left) had also urged the government to use the Sedition Act against Ibrahim over his speech on Sunday.

Responding to the attacks, Ibrahim said he can go it alone if other Malay MPs do not support him.

“I'm not hoping for other Malay members of parliament to back me up. Even if I'm alone I can fight,” he said in a statement today.

He also launched more broadsides against Khairy and Kit Siang.

“As for Lim Kit Siang, there's nothing surprising (about his statement). I liken him to an old bull, the meat of which wouldn't soften even if you boil it (before cooking),” he said.

He also raised old accusations against DAP over its role in the disturbances of 1969: “We know who Lim Kit Siang is, since the episode of May 13.”

Ibrahim asked why he was being accused of breaching the law when Khairy had openly announced that Umno Youth would hold a rally on July with or without a permit from the police.

“If (Umno) Youth gathers without a permit on July 9, this is also against the law. Is KJ willing to come down, or is he just posturing?” Ibrahim asked.

He further raised Khairy's involvement in ECM Libra, which wasprobed after Khairy took a loan in 2005 to acquire a RM9.2 million three-percent stake in the investment advisory group.

NONEI think there should be an investigation against this KJ,lah. Or perhaps some students can undertake a thesis on it,” said Ibrahim.

In another text-message to the press, Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali (left) blasted Chee Wee of the Bar Council for condemning Perkasa over the burning and stomping of pictures of Bersih chief Ambiga Sreenevasan on Sunday.

"Why didn't Lim say anything when national laureate Abdullah Hussain's picture was burnt by a group angered by his novel'Interlok', but is up in arms over the burning of Ambiga's photo?" asked Syed Hassan.

“Why is it when a picture of a Malay is burned, the Bar Council isdiam seribu bahasa (silent in a thousand languages)?

"When it is Malays doing iNONEt, the Bar Council makes noise, but when it is others, it is silent?"

Describing the online reports on Ibrahim's statements on Sunday as “inaccurate”, Syed Hassan said Perkasa wants Chee Wee to call for action against Ambiga for “inciting the rakyat to assemble on the streets.

“Isn't that a form of incitement and a violation of the nation's laws? Why fault Ibrahim only? Is the Bar Council selective? Is the Bar Council discriminating?” he asked. - Malaysiakini
