PUTRAJAYA - The Barisan Nasional government has long implemented efforts leading towards the formation of a welfare state, which PAS has only now thought of, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Friday.
The Prime Minister said PAS should not lift Barisan's idea of establishing a welfare state because the Government had been implementing that for a long time.
Najib said the setting up of various government agencies such as Felda and Felcra conformed to features pertaining to welfare, which the people had been enjoying.
"I find it weird that there are people harping on a welfare state ... they just thought about it?" he said when opening the Wasatiyyah Convention in conjunction with the First Millennium of Islam in the Archipelago, here.
PAS recently voiced its call to champion a welfare state after having claimed all along that the party's struggle was to establish an Islamic state.
