PKR says will sue to make power deals public

PKR will initiate legal proceedings in a bid to force the Najib administration to declassify the power purchasing agreements (PPAs) inked with independent power producers (IPPs).

PKR treasurer William Leong said today the party was giving the government a one-week deadline, failing which an application will be filed in court.

“PKR has decided that if the government does not disclose the PPA agreements by next week, we will file an application in court to require a full disclosure of the contracts,” Leong(picture) told reporters.

The Petaling Jaya Selatan MP said that there were legal precedents, citing the 2009 declassification of highway toll concessions and a water concession agreement declassification case.

“It’s public interest litigation, water concessionaires and toll concessions have been declassified, there is enough legal procedure to ensure a court process,” he explained.
