Several states sited in the western and middle parts of the Peninsula Malaysia felt the tremors happened in Sumatra, Indonesia on Tuesday morning.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake at 8:08 a.m. and a 5.6-magnitude quake at 11:01 a.m. (Malaysian time) hit Sumatera, Indonesia on Tuesday, some 330 km to the southwest Klang, a coastal city in Selangor.
The two earthquakes were felt in Selangor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Perak, said the Department.
Many residents living in high buildings in the Klang Valley area in Selangor ran out of their buildings after sensing the shakes, said local daily TheStar.
However, no tsunami threat has been released by the Meteorological Department yet.
