Why can't Umno Youth join the Bersih party?

your say'It is pretty obvious to everyone that Bersih welcomes all political parties to support its push for free and fair elections.'

July 9: Umno Youth to march as well

2CTS WORTH: As expected, the Umno guys do not have the maturity and intelligence befitting leaders.

This march by their youths, especially on the same day as Bersih's march, speaks volumes of the depth of their despair. We can only conclude that it is a collaboration of the whole government machinery if a permit is given.

This is the opportune time to show that government and opposition can work together for a common goal. Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, in his immaturity and false ego, is blind to it.

His mindset, as with all Umno brainless characters, is that whatever the opposition proposes should be rejected outright, whether good or bad.

Geronimo: "We are supporting the present electoral system," said Khairy. Does he have any choice, unless he wants to be booted out in GE13?

By supporting the present system, he is therefore:

1. Against automatic registration of prospective voter at age 21.

2. Against reforms to the postal voting system for out-of-town voters.

3. Against use of indelible ink to avoid repeat voting, which means Khairy is in favour of cheating using phantom voters.

4. Against the opposition of having access to the MSM (mainstream media), which reflects his callous attitude towards fairness.

5. Against a minimum campaign period of 21 days so as to deny the opposition the time to reach the far corners of the country and to get their message across to the electorates.

6. Against independence of enforcement bodies on election offences so to enable Umno to carry on with their 'I help you, you help me' activities.

7. Against stamping out electoral graft, which would put Umno and Khairy at the disadvantage and maybe disqualified from a seat or a hundred?

Anonymous_4056: Come rain or shine even Perkasa or Umno Youth or the police cannot stop me. I will be there in full support of Bersih without reservation or hesitation. Let's save Malaysia for our children's sake.

Realistic: I don't get it. Why would the Umno-led government and Perkasa so scared of this Bersih rally? As it has been said, Bersih is just demanding for a free and fair election.

I understand if Umno and Perkasa think that Bersih is supporting the opposition. But come to think of it, after the Sarawak election and the previous by-elections, I can see that Bersih's demands are justified.

After all, what is wrong for demanding that polls to be free and fair. This government just refuse to acknowledge, despite knowing very well, that there are serious shortcomings in the election process, which are benefitting them.

Hopeful123: Why is the Umno Youth and Perkasa being so childish. Let Bersih have a clean and civilised rally first as planned. Then you two may have yours too. Why throw a spanner in the works for Bersih?

Come on, Khairy sometimes you are behaving stupid. Why are you countering a good cause? Is it because you support an unfair election process?

SickNegara: This is the ploy of Umno Youth and Perkasa. They will apply for police permit just to get a rejection so that the police will claim fairness in rejecting Bersih 2.0's application as well.

Then, they will call for a counter-march in order to paint a dangerous situation to give the police reason to clamp down on Bersih 2.0.

Ksn: It must be clear to all in the country from the statements of Umno leaders, fanatics like Perkasa, the number of police reports that the Bersih rally has touched a very raw nerve, no, the panic button in Umno.

That sense of fear conveys a very strong clear message that Umno now realises that it has lost support and ground among the people and is on the way out. Hence the desperate behaviour from Umno and their hooligans.

To complicate matters, to instill fear, the police are issuing warnings on a daily basis threatening all sorts of actions and some even requesting the use of ISA. What must be realised is that whether the rally takes place, stopped, sabotaged, etc, the point and message of the Bersih rally have been made, made emphatically to the country, the people and the world at large. Umno has lost even before the event takes place.

Espana: Bersih 2.0 should call off the July 9 rally as a sign of respect for the silent majority who cherish peace. Please don't provoke violent reaction, whatever your reasons, noble or otherwise.

Don't stoke the ambers until it catches fire. If our elections aren't fair, how could Pakatan Rakyat win Selangor, Perak, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur and nearly Negri Sembilan. And look at the recent Sarawak polls. And the opposition also won many other parliamentary/state by-elections.

Tell me which other nation holds a truly fair and clean election?

Multi Racial: I disagree with Espana. Pakatan winning seats does not mean there is no fraud or unfairness. There were obvious cases brought up by various parties including Bersih but the EC chose to turn to deaf ear.

In this time and era, where there is a need for postal votes for those living within Malaysia. Why can't they register to vote the place they stay. Why for those living overseas cannot vote at the embassy, like other countries.

What Bersih did is noble and good for Malaysians and Malaysia in the long run. They are fighting for fair and clean election, and also against corruption. What is so wrong about that? In democratic countries, people should be allowed to voice their differences through peaceful demonstration. Why can't it be done here?

If Bersih call off the demonstration just because irresponsible organisation or individual like Perkasa or Ibrahim Ali threaten violent, then there is something very wrong with our system.

Ghkok: Any group has a right to march peacefully in the name of a cause. Bersih have a right. So does Perkasa and Umno Youth.

But it is totally irresponsible, provocative and despicable for Perkasa and Umno Youth to attack Bersih and to march on the same day to 'coincide' with Bersih's rally that was planned months ago and publicised long ago.

By doing so, they show total disrespect for democracy, for civil liberty, for peaceful expression and for civil order.

Wira: Umno Youth does not even understand the difference between Bersih supporting opposition parties and opposition parties supporting Bersih. It is pretty obvious to everyone that Bersih welcomes all political parties to support its push for free and fair elections.

The opposition supports it. Even some Gerakan leaders too. Why can't Umno do the same?
