According to Bernama, Petaling Jaya Selatan MIC chairperson V Subramaniam and Selangor Wanita MIC chief S Bagiam Ayem Perumal took their oaths this morning.
A third person, Malacca PPP chairperson Chiw Tiang Chai, 54, was sworn in as well today. This is his second term as a senator.
Rumours of Subramaniam and Bagiam's appointment have been circulating for several weeks, resulting in several news reports citing some MIC leaders voicing disapproval.
One key issue was that both Subramaniam and Bagiam were not only from the same state, but were from the same division.
Selangor happens to be Penang-born Palanivel's political base.
This move has been read as a snub by more senior leaders in other states.
Youth leaders are also restless as a senator's post is normally reserved for the youth wing.
MIC has been allocated six senator's position.
The four other senators are held by Palanivel, Daljit Singh, S Malasingham and PK Subbaiyah.
Subramaniam, better known as Bharat Maniam, is best known for his role in the Gagasan Anti-Samy (Gas) which ran a campaign last year to call for then party president S Samy Vellu's ousture.
After Samy Vellu stepped down in December last year, Palanivel reinstated the party membership of several Gas leaders, including Subramaniam.
