DUMC Church raid: Leaked Jais report genuine, say sources

The leaked report on the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) 'inspection' of a fund-raising dinner purported to be in celebration of the Christianisation of Muslims was today confirmed to be the real deal.

NONESources close to the Selangor government confided inMalaysiakini that the report leaked online by a pro-Umnoblogger was the actual preliminary report on the incident issued by the Islamic body.

A more comprehensive report is in the process of being finalised by Jais to be presented to the Selangor Sultan and Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.

"This thanksgiving dinner programme is suspected of being for the purpose of celebrating the conversion of some of the Muslims in attendance to Christianity, as well as to insult Islam as the dinner was in the guise of a buka puasa event attended by other Muslims," reads a section of the leaked report.

NONEThe document also confirmed that the raid, or inspection as Jais maintains, was conducted by the authority granted to the religious body under the 1988 Non-Islamic Religions (Control of Proselytising among Muslims) Selangor State Enactment.

The Act, the report states, "is enforceable on both Muslim and non-Muslims" alike.

The report also details the seizure of questionnaires on Islamic knowledge found at the dinner and the itinerary, which Jais deemed suspicious as it included the singing of the songs 'Alhamdulillah' and 'Allahhuakbar'.

The only point that the report differs from the general account of the incident involving some 13 Jais enforcement officers and 20 policemen, related by the church located in Petaling Jaya and NGO Harapan Komuniti which hosted the dinner, was on how it was conducted.

While the NGO is adamant that the incident was a full fledged raid where officers barged in and seized their property without warning, the report portrays the visit as conducted with tact, and being marred only by the lack of cooperation of the organisers.
