Better if Gerakan chief stands in another state, says Umno Youth

GEORGE TOWN - If former Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Kooncontests in Johor during the next general election, it would be a blessing in disguise for Penang Barisan Nasional, Penang Umno Youth deputy chief Norman Dahlan said.

He said if Koh planned to start anew in another state, it meant the Gerakan president had no confidence to lead Barisan in recapturing the state,

“Why else would he run to another state to contest if he has full confidence in recapturing Penang?” asked Norman.

Norman added that if Koh was seriously considering a move to another state to contest in the next general elections, he should announce his intentions early.

“He should relinquish his state Barisan post so that a more capable leader could be appointed to lead the coalition in the general election,’’ he said when contacted yesterday.

Meanwhile, state Gerakan Youth chief Oh Tong Keong said it was still too early to discuss where Koh would contest.

Penang Umno secretary Datuk Azhar Ibrahim said the decision of where Koh should contest was up to the Prime Minister and Koh himself.

“Non-party members should not have a say in Gerakan matters,” said Azhar.
