Home Ministry mulls legal action against Ampang MP

NONE
The Home Ministry said that it is considering various actions against Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin who has yet to furnish evidence that the ministry making immigrants pledge allegiance to Umno.

Home Ministry chief secretary Mahmood Adam said that the ministry is considering three options - suing Zuraida, lodging a police report against her, or lodging a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"The Home Ministry might choose one option, but it does not dismiss the possibility that it will do all three, considering the severity of Zuraida's allegations," said Mahmood in a statement today.

Mahmood said that the ministry takes the allegations seriously, because it is being accused of violating the country's sovereignty through the 6P amnesty programme.

On August 16, Zuraida claimed that representatives from the Wanita PKR wing had infiltrated one of the 6P programme venues and found that illegal immigrants were being made to take a loyalty oath that they will support Umno and BN.

Three days later, Mahmood had demanded for Zuraida to lodge a police report with evidence to back her claims.

The very same day, Zuraida said that a police report would be lodged soon and that she had strong evidence to back her claim.

She said that a police report would be lodged once enough witnesses had been gathered.

The 6P programme requires illegal immigrants to register themselves in order to qualify for an amnesty programme. More than a million illegal immigrants have been recorded since the early this month.

The government argued that this system was necessary in order to discourage human trafficking and illegal immigration. - Malaysiakini
