Penang offers SUPP’s Dr Sim a job

The Penang DAP government has invited Sarawak's leading cardiologist to join the government.

KUCHING: The Penang state government has offered defeated Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) candidate, Dr Sim Hui Kian a job in the state government.

Sim, a well known cardiologist in the Commonwealth, was formerly the head of Sarawak General Hospital Heart Centre.

He resigned in March to contest in the April 16 state election in the Pending constituency. He lost the seat to DAP’s Violet Yong by a majority of 7,595 votes.

Yong secured 14, 375 votes as against 6,780 votes obtained by Sim, who is the son of former deputy Chief Minister Sim Kheng Hui.

In the letter, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng made Sim the job offer saying that the state government in its quest to attract human talent is willing to offer to anyone without discrimination based on race, religion and political background a position in the state government.

The letter was forwarded to Yong on Wednesday.

According to Yong, Lim has asked her to contact Sim. The letter authorised Yong to liaise with Sim regarding the offer.

Yong said that she would send a cover note together with Lim’s letter of offer to Sim through the SUPP headquarters.

“I therefore request your goodself (Sim) to forward your resume (biodata) for me to forward to the Chief Minister of Penang for his further action,” Yong said, urging Sim to set aside their political differences and accept the job offer.

In June this year, Sim was reported to have said that he had read about the Penang government’s offer, but had not received anything concrete.

The offer came after Sim reportedly said that he had not been gainfully employed following his resignation from the Sarawak hospital and subsequent defeat in the state election.

He had previously worked in Australia before returning to Sarawak to set up the first Sarawak General Hospital Heart Centre, but resigned in March to contest in the state election.
