Another cash cow under seige - MIED

Another cash cow under seige

Just as we thought the cows will go home on the NFC issue, another cash cow is under siege, this time in MIC.

We expected things would be well in MIC with new leader G Palanivel but we were dead wrong. Palanivel does not have the courage to face off with Samy Vellu. Being the president of MIC, he must be an automatic choice to lead MIED, a cash cow presumably worth a billion. But it ended with Palanivel copping out.

Father and son want to retain MIED

The last few days there were calls for Samy Vellu to step down and hand over to Palanivel by a vocal branch chief V Thiagarajen. Then there was some very defensive play by Vell Paaari, whom we all know is Samy's son. “I am very sure that a prominent person from Klang is pulling the strings behind Thiagarajen,” Vell told a local new portal, declining to name the individual.

According to Vell, Palanivel had on numerous ocassions stressed that he did not want to helm MIED and that Samy Vellu would relinquish the post at the right time. The MIED board of trustees and CWC members are aware of this. So why is Thiagarajen trying to stir up this issue?”

From Vell's words, I know who the prominent person from Klang is, but the real issue is, I smell a real dirty rat here. Did Palanivel really stress that he did not want to helm MIED or he was forced not to head MIED as a trade-off for the president's post? When is the right time for Samy Vellu to hand over the post then? After we lose another 100 million or so just like the Telecom Shares issue?

If you ask me the right time is now, Samy Vellu should hand over to Palanivel because he is no more the president and to top it, he is an Envoy for the Malaysian Government and needs to travel frequently and handle many assignments he will not have the time to helm MIED, unless I quote a Malay proverb "Ada udang di balik batu"

Coward

On Monday, a very 'coward' Palanivel quit as board member from MIED, quote: "I have too many responsibilities to handle both as party president and minister. The MIED board meetings are very time-consuming. My job is to provide leadership to the party and the community. I think I will concentrate on this matter."

And he did not attend the MIED’s 24th annual general meeting that was held at the Dynasty Hotel here. This is utter nonsense!

MIED is the most important institution for the community, MIED is MIC’s educational arm that provides funds for needy Indian students and manages the party’s Asia Institute for Medicine Science and Technology (AIMST) in Kedah. How can a president act so irresponsibly, saying he does't have the time for this all-important institution for the Indians? Didn't Samy Vellu juggle his time for MIED and he was a full-fledged minister? And until today, Samy wants to hold on to it tightly. Why? The answer is simple. MIED is the biggest asset for MIC and is a ' cash cow without reins'.

There is a storm brewing in a teacup on this MIED issue. Palanivel doesn't want to reveal the true issues behind this, could be he is afraid of Samy Vellu? Is Palanivel just a proxy president and doesn't call the shots? Whatever the reasons, this doesn't augur well for MIC and the people who support it, especially the 600,000-odd members who are short changed by a few greedy individuals for power and might. The MIC is split between various camps, so how are they going to fight for Indian rights?

Dump BN, not just MIC

When the time comes for elections, their only concern will be to win the votes of the Indians by whatever means. Sadly, every time the Indians fall for it and sell their rights and those of their families to these greedy individuals who rape them on sight.

It looks like the Indians - just as the rest of the non-Malays - have still to trudge on. The battle is not won yet. Under the BN system, power is given in smallest drips to fake community representatives such as MCA and of course MIC.

As long as Indians support BN, the MIC will never bother to change. It is time for the community to do dump the BN for fostering the very system that has kept Indians and other non-Malays under the yoke of poverty while only a select few get to bermaharaja-lela (lounge in luxury).
