Women, Family and Community Development minister Shahrizat Jalil, at the centre of the storm over alleged misappropriation of public funds involving her husband, said the saga surrounding the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) owned by her family had nothing to do with her.
NFC, headed by Shahrizat’s husband Mohamad Salleh Ismail (pic), has been facing various allegations of fund abuse since its losses were first highlighted in the Auditor General’s Report 2011.
The Wanita UMNO chief is now faced with questions from delegates who will be gathering for the UMNO general assembly this week, where the issue could take centre stage during the debates.
Many analysts say Shahrizat’s stature as a 'winnable candidate', a phrase used by prime minister Najib Razak to justify candidates approved by him in the next general election, could now be severely affected.
Shahrizat however rubbished the speculation, and said the NFC issue was welcome to be debated at the UMNO assembly.
“It is not a problem if the NFC issue is debated. Although it (the issue) has nothing to do with me, I have one or two messages to deliver," she said, without explaining further what her "messages" would be about.
Shahrizat’s alleged involvement was strengthened by the revelation that NFC to pay RM26,400 had paid her expenses during the company's early stage of operation .
