Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil will respond to allegations of her involvement in the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) during the party’s general assembly on Wednesday.
“It will not be any problem if the issue is debated,” Shahrizat told reporters, when quizzed if she was prepared to answer questions posed by delegates on the matter.
She said that her policy speech will be targeting her critics, stressing that she could not speak on behalf of NFC because she was not involved.
However, she said she must send a message to the public on the matter.
She said that as a leader, she must be patient and accused her detractors of fearing the wing that she leads.
“They fear us because we are united, hard working and always on the ground serving the people,” she said.
Wanita Umno will become stronger with each attack from Pakatan Rakyat, she said.
Shahrizat is a serving Cabinet minister and there are claims that there is a conflict of interest in the government award to her husband Mohamad Salleh Ismail and their sons.
Mohamad Salleh is the chief executive officer of the NFC, which the Auditor-General’s Report 2010 said was “in a mess”.
Critics, particularly PKR, have been scouring NFC’s financial statements and claim that the company have abused a RM250 million government soft loan.
Following this, some of Shahrizat’s Umno colleagues have also called for the resignation, but she has secured the backing of Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
