GEORGE TOWN - The woman at the centre of an alleged scandal involving Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has chosen not to confirm or deny that she ever had a relationship with him. With Lim on Wednesday denying having any extra-maritial relationship, all eyes are now on Ng Phaik Kheng for her side of the story.
Ng, who heads the education affairs department at a private school here, has refused to answer questions from the press.
When approached at the school yesterday afternoon, she declined to comment, just like the day before.
She also appeared visibly annoyed when reporters stopped her for comments on the alleged affair. She reprimanded the reporters for going to the school to see her.
The former aide to Lim said she was busy and wanted to focus on the school's 95th anniversary celebration, which starts today.
"I don't want to comment on anything," she said before returning to class.
Guest of honour
Reporters continued to wait near Ng's Proton Waja car, hoping to catch her again but she did not show up even after school ended at 4.30pm.
A senior teacher then approached the reporters, asking what they were doing in the school. He did not reveal where Ng was.
It is learnt that the school and its teachers will not interfere in her personal matters.
It is also learnt that Lim has been invited by the school as a guest of honour to its anniversary dinner on Sunday at a hotel here.
On Monday, during a Malacca state assembly session, Duyong assemblyman Datuk Gan Tian Loo asked Kota Laksamana assemblyman Betty Chew Gek Cheng, who is Lim's wife, if she had harassed or injured her husband.
Gan, who is Malacca MCA chairman, also asked if she knew Ng and if she had also harassed and slapped her.
Chew, who had initially refused to respond to Gan's queries, had on Tuesday, along with four other DAP assemblymen, walked out of the assembly sitting in protest of media coverage on the issue.
They were suspended the next day for six months after another display of protest for disrupting state assembly proceedings and causing a ruckus.
Don't insult BN reps
"Each DAP assemblyman should be able to face a question asked in the house and answer it openly as it is a matter of public interest," he said at Taman Seribu Bunga, Malacca.
Meanwhile, MCA national organising secretary Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said Lim should be careful not to insult elected representatives who asked questions as they only wanted to seek the truth.
"Lim's description of Gan as 'uneducated' is regretful. He (Gan) has the responsibility of making inquiries on issues which require clarification."
Tee added that MCA had never insulted opposition party leaders by giving them unsavoury descriptions. - NST
