But others don't resort to cheating Australia

YOURSAY 'There are many Malaysians who mortgage/sell everything they have to educate their children overseas because of the state of education system here.'

Yen Yen: No regrets over Australian PR status
your sayONG: Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen openly told the whole world that she became an Australian PR (permanent resident) with absolutely no intention of staying there, but with the sole intention of getting cheap education for her son.

Her son, who according to her is a "very successful lawyer" should be able to explain to her that she actually cheated in her application for Australian PR.

Paul Warren: In other words, her Australian permanent resident status was obtained for the sole purpose of saving international fees levied on foreign students.

The fees payable would have been what were charged of citizens and PRs, which was then either nothing or just for a song.

Ng abused the loopholes in Australian law and took advantage of the PR status given to her, knowing very well she was not going to require it in the longer term.

Aiyoyo: This is the quality of our ministers. She cheated a foreign government just to get an overseas education for her son.

There are many Malaysians who mortgage/sell everything they have to educate their children overseas because of the state of education system we have in Malaysia. They don't resort to cheating a foreign government.

Anonymous_39d1: If I may ask, why did you send your son to Australia? He couldn't get into local university just like many bright and deserving non-bumiputeras?

Do you realise how hard many parents have to work to support their children's tertiary education overseas due to the discrimination they face here for over 50 years?

The number is definitely is more than the 200,000 mentioned by Chua Soi Lek in Debate 2.0.

1234567: Ng, I'm sure your son was bright enough to enter local university to study law, so why all the trouble to seek PR in Australia?

Either he couldn't secure a place locally because of the quota system which is the failure of MCA, or you agree that Australia is a better place for your son's future.

But the point is, not all Malaysians can afford to do this. That is why we have to remove corruption to make Malaysia a better place for all of us.

YF: Ng, do you understand what Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng was saying? He was saying not everyone is as corrupted and rich as MCA politicians who can afford PR status.

Instead most Ah Lians and Ah Kows have to work hard just to earn a living, battling the racist policies of this country from education to loans to jobs, etc.

The reason you do not understand Lim's statement is because you do not understand the plight of the non-Malays. MCA has lost touch of the people they supposedly represent. And MIC is no different.

Anonymous #02382443: What a shameless act. No sense of integrity and honour. What sort of message is this leader sending to the people? She seems to say, the end justifies the means.

Both parents are doctors. They can't afford to send their son for his education? And they are proud of having taken a free ride at others' expense.

I hope his son, a lawyer, can hold his head high knowing the way his parents have chosen to put him through university using such a despicable act.

Wira: Lim is absolutely correct. Not every Malaysian is able to get PR status in Australia because he/she is not like Ng.

Elected leaders must sacrifice for the people (like Lim going to jail because he fought for injustice over the rape of a minor by an influential politician), over and above sacrificing for a son.

Ng, you took advantage of the immigration policy of another country to benefit yourself. Shame on you.

Louis: My two children are paying taxes in Australia. When told that you applied for PR just for your son's education, both of them just spewed out four letter words.

Telestai!: What Ng said was that she got her Australian PR so that her son could get free education in Australia although she has no intention to settle down in Australia.

And she is proud of what she did - that she cheated the Australian government?

There is no misunderstanding here. It is a case of a dishonest Malaysian who became a minister. The basic struggle of MCA, i.e. championing the Chinese cause, had been lost a long time ago.

Apart from a few good guys like Ong Tee Kiat and Lee Kim Sai, MCA never really had good quality politicians. Most of the MCA leaders are there for the spoils and some crumbs thrown to them by Umno.

And they wonder why MCA is becoming irrelevant.

RAW: It's true that many Malaysian parents acquired PR status in New Zealand and Australia after 1980 (after university fees were imposed on foreign students in Australia) for the sake of the education of their children.

But still, it does not sound right to me to hear someone in the position of national leadership openly admitted that she felt proud in deliberately taking advantage of free education for PRs in Australia. - Malaysiakini
