EC: Police to vote where they are stationed

PUTRAJAYA, July 18 — The Election Commission (EC) has denied that police personnel have been allowed to do postal voting from anywhere, instead saying they will only vote where they are registered.
Members of the Royal Malaysian Police are registered where they are stationed and not where they are from, according to the Election (Registration of Electors) Regulations 2002, said the EC in a statement today.
The EC was clarifying a report in Harakah, the official party organ of PAS, in its July 13-15 edition that reported the EC had allowed police personnel to do postal voting from anywhere.
On 37 objections against postal voting received from policemen in the Tumpat parliamentary constituency, he said 35 were rejected and two were accepted.
This means the applications by 35 policemen to be registered as voters in the Wakaf Bharu locality were accepted by the EC as they are using the address of their place of work, the Wakaf Bharu police station, it said in the statement. — Bernama
