KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today reminded Muslims to set aside their political differences for the sake of unity of the ummah that will bring them to a new and better dimension of Islam.
“Remember that enemies of Islam will always try to create disharmony among the Muslims because they know that the strength of Islam depends on the unity of the ummah,” Najib(picture) said in his Ramadan message posted on his blog at www.1malaysia.com.my today.
He said factionalisation of the ummah due to political differences was one of the factors that could weaken Islam in the country.
“Have faith that victory and success will only come when there is unity between the leaders and the people they lead.
“In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, I call upon the Muslims in Malaysia to foster unity of the ummah because unity is the pillar of strength for Muslims in the future,” he said.
The prime minister said the spirit of unity inspired in the War of Badar which occurred on the 17th day of Ramadan should be observed by all Muslims.
“In this holy month of Ramadan, we should also cleanse our souls by helping the poor, orphans and underprivileged people. Let’s avoid wastage, nurture the attitude of giving alms and don’t forget to pay zakat fitrah,” he added.
Najib also wished all Muslims in the country “Happy Ramadan” and happy fasting. — Bernama
