Testifying in court yesterday, UMNO wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil finally acknowledged that she had known about National Feedlot Centre project since 2007.
Prior to this, Shahrizat said that she was unaware that her husband Mohd Salleh Ismail, chairman of scandal-ridden National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), had tendered for the project.
“I only knew around 2007 after my husband expressed his desire that the children come back to help him in the project. This happened after he was awarded the project,” Shahrizat told the court hearing her defamation suit against PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin and the party's strategic director, Rafizi Ramli.
Shahrizat denied having knowledge of the project earlier, saying discussion about NFC was not made in her capacity as the Women, Family and Community Development minister but as a private talk between her and her husband.
On question whether her son Wan Shahinur Izran was too young to be appointed as the director of NFC at the age of 22, Shahrizat argued that her son was qualified citing his good results abroad.
Shahinur, she said, had stayed with her since 2004 while her other son Wan Shahinur Izmir, 32 and daughter Wan Izzana Fatimah Zabedah, 26, had been abroad until 2007 when they returned to join NFC.
According to Shahrizat, her husband seldom talked about work at home.
Accusing Zuraida and Rafizi’s statements of putting her into disrepute, Shahrizat is seeking RM100 million in damages.
