RAUB, Aug 1 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan, the people should express their gratitude to God for the peace enjoyed in this country.
He said the enjoyment of peace and prosperity were the result of the sacrifices of the nation’s warriors and the capability of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s leadership all this while.
“We paid the price in blood; it is all for the people, and in ensuring harmony, we deal in the best possible way with a nation that is complex due to its diversity.
“We had to face many challenges but we’ve brought about peace and calm. I cannot guarantee that the opposition can ensure that, as they cannot even agree among themselves on constitutional matters.
“This has given rise to the big question of whether they can ensure continued harmony in the country,” Najib said in his speech at a breaking-of-fast with about 10,000 local residents at the Kampung Gali Tengah public field, here, today.
Also present were Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen and Raub Umno division chief Datuk Shaharuddin Ab Moin.

The prime minister said the BN government not only succeeded in creating peace and prosperity, but this prosperity had also drawn people from other countries to seek a living in Malaysia.
“While in some other countries including in Europe, their unemployment rates have risen by 25 to 45 per cent, like in Spain for instance, Malaysia does not have that problem but it’s just that some people are choosy about jobs and choose not to work,” he said.
Najib said Malaysia’s prosperity was being enjoyed by some two million registered foreign workers.
At the function, he also announced the approval for the building of a Universiti Teknologi Mara branch campus in Raub soon at a cost of RM230 million.
The prime minister then performed Maghrib, Isyak and Tarawih prayers with residents. — Bernama
