LONDON,-- Datuk Lee Chong Wei has done his best, but luck was on Lin Dan's side to win the gold medal in men's singles final of the 2012 Olympics here today, patron of Badminton Association of Malaysia Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The prime minister's wife said badminton fans in Malaysia should be satisfied with the fighting spirit showed by the national ace even if he had to settle for the silver medal.
"All badminton fans should be satisfied and not disappointed because Chong Wei has given his best performance. It's just that Lin Dan is a bit luckier," she told the Malaysian media after the final match at the Wembley Arena here.
Rosmah is here with Deputy Prime Minister's wife Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman to give their supports to Chong Wei.
Chong Wei lost 21-15, 10-21, 19-21 to Lin Dan in a three-set thriller which lasted 79 minutes.
This is the second time Chong Wei lost to the Chinese ace in the fight for the Olympics gold medal. In Beijing Olympics four years ago, Chong Wei was defeated 12-21, 8-21 by Lin Dan.
Rosmah said although Lin Dan lost the first set 15-21, it was just a normal strategy played by the Chinese ace.
"Based on my analysis, every time he plays against Chong Wei, Lin Dan will let himself lose the first set, before he go all out to win the second. Tactically, he was trying to weaken Chong Wei.
"Lin Dan will then become more aggressive in the rubber set to claim victory," she added.
