Guan Eng ready to help Yen Yen find "PEACE OF MIND"
GEORGE TOWN - DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng is willing to be the punching bag for MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen over the issue of her Australian permanent residency (PR) status.
The Penang chief minister said Ng could continue to make attacks against him if she could "let off steam" by doing so.
"If she can find peace of mind by making all these attacks then go ahead," he said at a press conference today, commenting on Ng, who reportedly labelled him as "Mr Blame, Mr Avoid, Mr Boast and Mr Confuse all in one."
The MCA Penang chief made the remarks during the Penang Wanita MCA delegates convention on Saturday, claiming that Lim had failed to provide statistics on low-cost housing by the state.
She also criticised him for playing the blame game over the Penang Hill "Kancil" car park.
The issue of Ng's PR status was alluded to by Lim in a recent televised debate between him and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
Although he did not name Ng directly, the tourism minister has previously confirmed she had applied for Australian PR in the 1990s, at the time when she was a senator, for the sake of her son's studies – but gave it up in 1995.
Also, Lim claimed that it was not DAP which had raised the issue but it was former MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat who did so when the Barisan Nasional component party was facing a political crisis.
He said Ng should take a leaf from former Wanita MCA chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun who had resigned from all party posts following Chua's election as party president in 2010 after pledging to do so earlier.
"I think she should learn from Chew what is the right attitude for morality and accountability," Lim added.
Earlier, he had accompanied DAP national chairman and Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh to the Murugan Hilltop Temple.
Lim gave RM50,000 out of his constituency allocation and a RM10,000 personal contribution to the temple's building fund.
Also present were Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy, Ipoh Timur MP Lim Kit Siang, Datuk Keramat assemblyman Jagdeep Singh, Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer and Bagan Dalam assemblyman A. Tanasekharan.
