Ku Nan: Non-performing Umno leaders should go
Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has called on party leaders to relinquish their appointed positions if they can no longer perform.
"I would like to remind myself and those in the party that they should not be obstacles to the party's work.
"If we know that we can no longer perform, it is better for us to take a path where we step aside and let those who are willing to continue our cause," he said in an interview with Utusan Malaysiapublished today.
Tengku Adnan - who goes by his monicker Ku Nan - stressed that party interests must supersede personal interests.
"Leaders come, leaders go. We must remember that whatever positions we hold in the government, it is because of the party," he was quoted he saying.
However, Ku Nan lamented that certain Umno leaders were less forthcoming when accepting such criticism but did not name them.
"This is a syndrome of not wanting to accept criticism. They think that they are the only one who are right but the truth is bitter.
"What more is the truth will shake certain leaders. They start to panic like certain chief ministers and menteri besar," he told the daily.
Ku Nan added that these people attempt to deny the truth but his criticisms of them were based on information received from the grassroots.
"Trust me, when I criticise, it is for the benefit of the party. It is not to simply hurt the feelings of any leaders or due to hatred of any leaders or anyone in the party," he said in the interview.
