DAP Sabah said Pakatan Rakyat will abolish Cabotage policy because this has allowed systematic discriminations against fellow Malaysians in Sabah.
Junz Wong DAP Sabah Assistant Secretary emphasized despite what The Malaysia Shipowners Association (MASA) has claimed 60% of the final price of goods does not come from ocean freight charges, Cabotage policy remained one of the most contributing factors why Sabah suffers low standard of living and high cost of livings.
Junz however said the shipowners have completely missed the point!
Shipowners have warned that Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) pledge to abolish the national cabotage policy would put local shipping lines and thousands of Sabah and Sarawak crew members out of work.
What shipowners had failed to understand was Sabahans didnt need Port Klang, with Sabah strategic location, with good governance and management, Sabah can easily be developed into one of the best ports in Southeast Asia.
Junz Wong who is also DAPSY KK Assistant Youth Chief stressed, by developing our Sabah Port, Not only we could lower down logistic & transportation costs, we would also reduce cost of livings and prices of commodity goods and properties because raw materials would directly be sent to Sabah ports.
Not only we will not suffer from loss of job opportunities but exactly the opposite. We will create more job opportunities for Sabahans and better business opportunities for entrepreneurs.
"We don't deny with better basic infrastructures, land transportation system and logistics we can indeed lower the cost of goods even more on top of what I have mentioned above, it is reason as such we must have a change of Federal Government.
Sabah had given BN long 50years and BN had failed Sabahans badly. So its time to give Pakatan Rakyat a try for enough is enough." Junz concluded. (DAP Media)
