We too are against partisan politics in mosques, says PAS

We too are against partisan politics in mosques, says PAS
Selangor PAS commissioner Dr Abdul Rani Osman said he was in full agreement with calls for mosques in the state not to be used as platform for partisan politics.
According to Rani, top PAS leaders such as Murshidul Am Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and its president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang were also against attempts by some quarters to use mosques for party-political purposes.
Rani however pointed out that a line must be drawn between partisan politics and current political events, saying the latter cannot be isolated from Islam.
"There is difference between partisan politics and current political events.
"We cannot isolate current political events. But we must avoid promoting PAS, or UMNO," said Rani.
He called on mosque and surau attendees to report to him if they came across speakers whether from UMNO or PAS who deliver their religious lectures with party political overtones.
"And [complaints must be] complete with evidence such as recording or video," he added.
It was reported earlier that the Selangor Islamic Religious Department was monitoring 38 mosques in the state for using their tazkirah (short religious lectures) sessions during Ramadan to air political views.
