KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said today it would be most appropriate for an MP from Sabah to be appointed to the post of Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government vacated by Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin.
"It is up to the Prime Minister (to appoint anyone), but it would be better if it is a Sabahan," he told reporters at the distribution of 1Malaysia water tanks in the Putatan district at the Putatan multi-purpose hall, here.
He was commenting on the revocation of Lajim's appointment with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after the Beaufort MP had announced his defection from the Barisan Nasional (BN) over the weekend.
Earlier, Yahya distributed letters of authority for the purchase of the 1Malaysia water tanks to 433 residents from 31 villages, represented by village chiefs and village development and security committee chairmen.
In addressing the villagers, he said the distribution of the 1Malaysia water tanks was to ensure that the villagers had adequate supply of water.
"The BN government has various ways of assisting the people in the country as each day we deliver aid to those eligible. Those who have not received the aid, must be patient," he said.
According to him, a total of 263 of 696 1Malaysia water tanks with a capacity of 400 gallons each as well as accessories were distributed to the villagers in Putatan under the Rural Transformation Programme of the federal government.
