The sanctity and joy of celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri will be defiled by the 'Janji Bersih' demonstration “which is being orchestrated by the opposition”, according to former information minister and Umno loyalist Zainuddin Maidin.
He said the “demonstration” is clearly an attempt to refute the National Day theme 'Janji Ditepati' (Promises Fulfilled), and will remind the public of the “riot” during the Bersih 3.0 rally in Kuala Lumpur on April 28.In a commentary published by Utusan Malaysia today, Zainuddin (right) claimed that the announcement of the 'Janji Bersih' rally has angered people who are in festive mood for Hari Raya.
“(However) the government should not be too worried by the yellow rally threat because the more they take the wrong steps due to their false belief in themselves, the more negative the impact will be on themselves,” he wrote.
Some by 26 NGOs led by Bersih steering committee head A Samad Said will hold a Merdeka Day alternative countdown at Dataran Merdeka on the night of Aug 30, to remind the federal government of its unfulfilled promises in ensuring clean and fair elections.
The gathering will require participants to wear yellow to symbolise their struggle for clean and fair elections.Zainuddin insisted that the opposition is behind the “demonstration”, in order to divide the sympathies of the people and stop them from taking part in the official countdown to be held at the same time and venue.
“The organiser of the Bersih 3.0 rally was not (a) political (group), but eventually political leaders appeared during the rally and incited the participants to ... act violently towards the police,” he claimed.
