Facebook probe: Cops search family's house at dawn

Police have now extended their investigations against quantity surveyor Ahmad Abd Jalil, for allegedly insulting the Johor sultan, to include his family home in Klang.

About 6.20am today, four police officers from Johor Baru arrived at his family home in Klang. Malaysiakini was alerted to this by Ahmad's lawyer Fadiah Nadwa Fikri.

NONEAhmad's sister Asiah (left) said the police led by one ASP Tan had met with the family and wanted to take their statements.

The police said they wanted statements from four other members, including his father and brothers Adam and Ali.

The police had also asked to search their home, Asiah said.

"We declined to give our statements until we had a lawyer present, and until Ahmad's case is settled," the 30-year-old law student told Malaysiakini.

"However, the police were very professional. They waited for us to dress up properly and then did their search," she added.

"At first, we felt intimidated but the police were very polite. We know they are merely doing their job," she said.
"We give our word we will cooperate fully with the police for the sake of Ahmad's safety and release," Asiah said.
Facebook posting
Ahmad, a 27-year-old quantity surveyor, was arrested on Friday and taken to Johor Bahru to be investigated for allegedly insulting the Johor sultan in a Facebook posting.

After a three-day remand, he was re-arrested under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act.

Ahmad's second three-day remand ends today but lawyer Fadiah says there has been no word as yet on the development of the case.

He has 10 siblings and several attended the candle vigil organised by students, lawyers and activists last night at Dataran Merdeka.

Johor Baru Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Nor Azizan Anan said the police have lodged two reports against news portals Malaysiakini and Malaysian Insider under Section 500 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation.

Nor Azizan said police would also be questioning Ahmad's family members to help in their investigations.

Until now, Ahmad and his family remain unaware of which posting the royalty finds offensive.
