If 'hudud' only for Muslims, why charge Chinese female hairdresser - MCA slams Kelantan

Although both DAP and PAS claimed that PAS hudud enactments will not affect non-Muslims, the summons issued by the Kota Bharu Municipal Council against a Chinese female hairdresser for styling a man’s hair dismiss their earlier claims. Moreover, summons against non-Muslims based on PAS hudud enactments have occurred repeatedly.

It should be pointed out that when the plainclothes enforcer issued summons against the non-Muslim hairdresser, the Kota Bharu Municipal Council has deemed the hairdresser to have committed an offence.

According to Sin Chew Daily (22 November 2012), the Kota Bharu Municipal Council has slapped the salon with 11 summons since 2010, of which four of the summons had accused the salon’s female staff to have committed an offence by providing service to male clients. Another occasion when the local authority similarly fined non-Muslims include a salon owner whose Muslim employee had worn a blouse with a three-quartre sleeves.

'Worse implications'

Although these are only a few examples of the PAS-led Kelantan state government’s local by-laws and regulations, they are sufficient to affect the daily routine of non-Muslims. Moreover, the implementation of PAS hudud enactments can only mean worse implications for non-Muslims.

PAS leaders have repeatedly announced that they seek to amend the Federal Constitution to enable the implementation of PAS hudud enactments e.g. PAS President has declared that he intends to insert “Islam is Addin (way of life) into the Federal Constitution. Hence, any claims that PAS hudud enactments will not affect non-Muslims are gutter nonsense.

DAP Vice Chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw has warned that with the implementation of PAS hudud enactments, MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek will be the first to be stoned to death. Hence, this repudiates DAP’s claims that PAS hudud enactments will not affect non-Muslims. Based on Dr Tan’s warning, DAP indirectly recognises that the rights of non-Muslims will be destroyed once PAS hudud enactments are imposed.
