Pua cries abuse for being pulled into ROS dragnet
Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua has cried foul after becoming the latest person to be hauled up by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), with the help of police, to investigate human rights NGO Suaram.
"This is getting completely ridiculous, I think there are people without brains working in the particular department (investigating Suaram)," Pua told a press conference at the Parliament lobby this morning.
"They are so eager to persecute Suaram that they will go the full extent to bully and harass people who are trying to protect human rights and fight corruption in Malaysia."
He said he was shocked by the summons handed to him as he had never been part of Suaram's activities, except in making statements in defence of the NGO.
The ROS summons to Pua, under Sections 111 and 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code, comes a day after it was reported that Bersih steering committee member Maria Chin Abdullah (right) and Bar Council chairperson Lim Chee Wee have also been called up by ROS.
Maria and Lee too have expressed bewilderment, as they have never been part of Suaram.
