Rafizi taunts Nazri over exposé on son
PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli said he welcomed legal action against him for yesterday's revelation of ties between the family of minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Aziz and controversial timber tycoon Michael Chia who was linked to the RM40 million cash ‘donation’ to Sabah UMNO.
“I am not afraid and if Nazri says it’s slander, he can take action against me or sue me. In fact, I am not hiding behind parliamentary immunity with the exposé, because I am confident and sure that what I am doing is right and not slander,” he stressed today.
Yesterday, Rafizi pointed out conflict of interest on the part of Nazri for defending Chia over the RM40 million 'donation', and showed proofs that Nazri's son Nedim Nazri was enjoying benefits from Chia.
Among others, pictures were produced to show that the Sabahan businessman's half-a-million ringgit Hummer was being used by Nedim.
Chia was arrested in 2008 in Hong Kong when he attempted to smuggle RM40 million cash allegedly for Sabah chief minister Musa Aman.
However, Nazri had told parliament that the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission had cleared Musa in the case, claiming that the money was donation for Sabah UMNO.
“If Chia isn’t guilty, he (Nazri) has to provide documents especially a confirmation letter from ICAC," said Rafizi, urging Nazri to prove that Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption had closed investigation against Chia.
Nazri had immediately put up a brave front following the exposé, saying he would not suffer the fate of UMNO Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who was forced to resign from cabinet due to her husband's involvement in the National Feedlot Corporation scandal.
"I'm a rich man, I'm powerful, good looking. Wealthy. So what can I do?
"I have a film star punya status here you know? Celebrity. Not local film star, but Hollywood," said Nazri.
Rafizi however advised Nazri to emulate Shahrizat by taking a leave from cabinet pending probe, adding that a report would be filed next week with the MACC.
