KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 — Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has quit the political party he founded last year but insists Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (KITA) is still under his control, The Star Online reported today.
KITA secretary Masrum Dayat was reported as saying he had taken over as president from Zaid(picture) after the latter sent in his resignation latter last Saturday.
“However, he is still a central committee member and an ordinary Kita member,” Masrum told the news portal, saying Zaid had cited health problems behind his resignation.
Zaid was the de facto law minister during Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s tenure as prime minister but quit his Cabinet post and Umno in September 2008 over the controversial detention of DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok, a journalist and blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
He later joined PKR but left the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lynchpin in 2010, citing loss of confidence in the party’s leadership.
