It's good to harbor confidence that we (BN) will win the upcoming general elections with a two-third majority, better than what we recorded in 2008. Taking back the seats lost to the opposition is also part of our main strategy.
But what strategy?
Umno Information chief Ahmad Maslan has been going around like a math teacher, compiling and adding numbers to inject that optimistic feel among pro-BN Malaysians. He should know that it was the people like him who contributed to our 'losses' in the previous national poll.
Over confidence, loose argument and illogical approach introduced in 2008 failed to help the ruling party retain that strong two-third majority at the Parliament. We also lost five State Assemblies.
It's easy to say that BN will win, that BN will win big and is capable of wresting 20 opposition seats. I like it, and I believe many others support that idea. Its the same story Ahmad tells those who attend his function nationwide.
However, what is the formula to support his prophecy? Just telling Umno members to work hard when the opposition, on the other hand tells its supporters to 'work harder?'
Tell me and others, what is the calculation or the basis to support that '20 seats' when his information wing is not doing much to woo votes, just like the weakening Infomation Dept and JASA under the Ministry of Information, Communications and Cultre?
With such statement (has repeats it everywhere he goes), the opposition laughs at him and BN, and they will worker extra harder to retain the 20 seats in Ahmad's list.
And again, what is his formula to undermine the opposition?

MALACCA: Barisan Nasional is capable of wresting back 20 opposition-held seats to secure a two-thirds majority in the coming general election, said Umno information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan.Over confidence and complacency led to the 'disastrous defeat' BN incurred about 4 years ago. Everywhere the leaders go, they will relate the same old story again and again. Ahmad Maslan has been giving talks and conducting courses to prepare the 'information people' face the general elections.
He is confident that Barisan can retain the 140 parliamentary seats it won and capture five (of 23 seats held by) PAS, five (of 29 held by) DAP and 10 (of the 31) PKR seats.
He said the confidence was based on various factors including the problems faced by the opposition in several seats that it had won.
"It's logical because, for example, seven of the PKR seats are already problematic for the opposition as six as the incumbents left the party to become independents while it lost the Hulu Selangor seat," he said after attending the opening of a professionalism-enhancing retreat.
Ahmad, who is Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was also an important factor in ensuring victory for BN.
"The people have benefited from the various incentives and privileges introduced by the prime minister such as the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) and 1Malaysia Book Voucher, as well as the transformation programmes."
Besides that, he said, the winnable candidates to be fielded by BN would also contribute to the ruling coalition recapturing some of the opposition-held seats.
However, Ahmad reminded that victory could be achieved if BN members did not resort to "cah keting" or sabotage against the party or the chosen candidates.- Bernam
And again, what is his formula to undermine the opposition?
