Staff from the Automated Enforcement System (AES) outsourcing company have been requested to take leave from work due to drastic reduction of traffic offenders captured by the AES cameras lately.

Sources told Cars, Bikes & Trucks (CBT) that for the past three weeks, around 50 per cent operation workforce have been requested to take leave by the management in view of reduced workload.

"In the first two weeks of AES implementation, there was constant volume of images capturing the traffic violators. But since middle of November, there has been significant drop and there was nothing much to do for the operation team to process the images since the system captured few offenders," said the insider to CBT.

On Nov 10, The New Straits Times had reported that 79,000 summonses were issued ever since the 14 AES cameras started operation on Sept 23 across three states.

However, up until Nov 4 the overall reduction was a massive 73 per cent dip.

"Take a look for instance at the KM301.9 on the PLUS Highway before the Kajang interchange. At that location alone, there was a huge dip in recording offences with 77.3 per cent reduction for six weeks from Oct 1," said the insider last night.

The source said up until first week of December, the downward trend of capturing the image of traffic offenders under the AES system continued.

"At one stage, the operation supervisor had to reschedule three times of the weekly roster. As a result, nearly half of the operation personnel were requested to take leave on certain days," said the source.

CBT understands that several staff of the companies are hired on contract basis - working on three-shift per day - at the AES Control Centres.

The public-private partnership of the 24-7 electronic enforcement system works on the platform in which the private companies install and maintain the system while Road Transport Department is the only party responsible for issuing the traffic summonses.

For northern region, A.T.E.S Sdn Bhd is operating the system while for southern region, it is under the scope of Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd.
