BACHOK, Dec 9 — Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) can trace foreign funds channeled via non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to finance opposition efforts to sabotage Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election.
“We will tell the people so that they can pass judgment,” said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin (picture) said after meeting 100 young ulama at Bachok Umno division office here today.
Perkasa information chief Ruslan Kassim claimed that the opposition had created a special fund to finance Umno and BN members to sabotage the party in the general election.
Awang Adek who is also deputy chairman of Kelantan Umno liaison said the country would come under foreign influence if the opposition was given the mandate.
He said if foreign funds threaten security or violate the country’s laws, action could be taken under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001. — Bernama
