Dr M, rakyat will decide who has indeed perform

YOURSAY 'Many of the ills the country is facing today are due largely to the misguided policy of Mahathir during his 22-year reign.'

Dr M: I'll go against anybody who does not perform

your sayRestless_Native: Let's analyse former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's remark on Proton. There were, and still are, many recalls on cars from the major makers because they react pro-actively (where they can) to potential problems.

Consumers in these countries have a choice to buy their cars or not to buy. In Malaysia, Proton ignores any persistent issues with their cars (indicating an engineering or product fault) and passes the resolution onto the rakyat.

The rakyat does not really have a choice since the price differential of the alternatives is considerable. So his rationale is: "If Proton does not issue any recalls, it must be a good car."

But can Proton publish all known repair rates on all their models so that we can see common repairs among the models to infer whether we have a product problem?

Milosevic: The Umnoputra henchman is now trying to sound like a statesman. He is desperate for BN to win because he is afraid his terrible record will be revealed - an anti-national who flooded the country with illegal immigrants so that they could become constitutional Malays, and support the thieving class of predatory constitutional Malays like himself.

History will show him to be not only an arrogant, third-rate dictator but worse, a crooked, cheating and lying person. He has no choice but to support PM Najib Razak, whom he had said bad things earlier because he preferred the not-so-smart, Malay chauvinist Muhyiddin Yassin.

Mahathir has done some remarkably stupid things - like the many heavy industry projects, the Putrajaya wasteland, the sacking then deputy PM Anwar Ibrahim and destroying his successor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (Pak Lah), both of whom could have put BN in a stronger position eventually.

But no, Mahathir was trying to find people who would protect, actually hide, his terrible legacy, and push up his incompetent sons to high office and be positioned for further wealth grab.

Absalom: "I will campaign if somebody does not perform and in my view, Pak Lah didn't perform," Mahathir said.

Well, in my view, not performing is much better than performing badly, stealing from the public and not getting lost after retirement.

Anonymous #33877536: Pah Lah is a gentleman. Till today he has never got involved and made press statements after been "forced out" of office. Dr M keep bad mouthing him and yet Pak Lah never insults this man.

Starr: What about those who destroyed the original spirit of Merdeka and the fabric of the Malaysian society and community?

No doubt, Mahathir would head the list as the greatest 'destroyer' rather than 'builder' of a country which held so much promise for all communities, regardless of race and religion, in the periods leading up to and that following immediately from Merdeka.

Many of the ills the country is facing today are due largely to the misguided policy of Mahathir during his 22-year reign.

He talks about performance, but for whom and according to whose measures? The nation doesn't need to progress according his measures, and Mahathir doesn't have the monopoly of truth.

Guna Otak Sikit: The worst deterioration in every institution in the country came about under his rule. Yet, now, he is talking as if he has done so much good to the country and will do more. Go and retire lah.

You have done enough damage. Can't you see how the rakyat feel when they delivered such a strong mandate to Abdullah in 2004?

Not that Abdullah was good. It was just that the rakyat wanted to deliver a message of "good riddance" and were so glad to see the back of you.

So, do you think you are still valued? I can only see that money is talking and making politicians do the bidding.

I do hope you will see Anwar becoming the new prime minister after the GE13. It will indeed be a very interesting time and a time for accountability for everyone.

Still think things can be swept under the carpet like what is happening now? Think again.

LittleGiant: Mahathir may be satisfied with Najib's performance and can do any amount of campaigning for Najib and his BN government.

But ultimately, it is the rakyat's vote at the general elections that will decide if they were happy and satisfied with the BN government's performance.

Mahathir may be impressed with all the high-profiled transformation programmes of the BN government. But true performance goes beyond all that ETP, GTP, BR1M, etc.

It is how the government dealt with corruption, mismanagement in civil service, abuse of power and its respect for civil societies that will decide if the government had truly performed or not.

By the way, what would happen if Najib, as the prime minister, is happy with the performance of his cabinet members and Mahathir is not happy with the performance of some of them?

Does it mean that Mahathir would campaign against them if they are chosen to contest in the elections? I hope to see it happen.

Pemerhati: Mahathir chose Abdullah to take his place because he thought Abdullah was a simpleton whom he could control after he stepped down and continue to get his multi-million ringgit kickbacks from various projects, like the crooked bridge.

Unfortunately for him, that simpleton on gaining power turned out to be not that simple and he also came under the influence of his ‘Rasputin' son-in law.

Thus all his well-laid plans to continue with the plunder of the country went down the drain and this infuriated him as his dream of stealing a couple of more billions of the people's money was shattered.

His continuous demonisation of Abdullah up to today indicates the depth of hatred in him for Abdullah for not allowing him to steal for another five years.

But Najib with things like ‘Scorpenes', ‘Altantuya' and ‘Port Dickson' hanging over his head cannot do a ‘Abdullah' on him and so Mahathir is very happy with his ‘performance' as now his children can continue with the crooked business of making easy money.

Abasir: Just as you campaigned against Abdullah, Malaysians who have seen through your self-serving crookedness and who have experienced the destruction of all institutions and standards are now campaigning against you, your proxy Najib and everything you represent.

This campaign will not end until all vestiges of you and the poison you have spread through the land are removed. - Malaysiakini
