KUALA LUMPUR- Senator Ezam Mohd Nor claimed that opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had used the Umno general assembly for his own agenda during his time in the party.
He alleged that Anwar had used the assembly to raise his own profile and bury others.
"Anwar had crafted speeches to achieve that purpose. He also arranged representatives to give speeches," Ezam said in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that as Anwar's former political secretary, he had been told to carry out the agenda.
Ezam urged Anwar to stop belittling this year's Umno general assembly as Umno had improved tremendously over the years and did not practise cronyism and nepotism like in Parti Keadilan Rakyat.
On Monday, Anwar had criticised the recently concluded 66th Umno general assembly, saying there was a disconnection between the Umno leadership and grassroots as the leaders "stayed in five-star hotels, spent time in lounges and smoked expensive cigars".
