Mat Zain: Musa Hassan's made a false affidavit

Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan may have made a false statutory declaration in 1998 and should be investigated for giving false testimony in court in Anwar Ibrahim's abuse of power case, former Kuala Lumpur CID chief Mat Zain Ibrahim says.

NONEThe affidavit in question is related to the arrest of KS Nallakaruppan and Musa's investigations into the infamous anti-Anwar book '50 Dalil Kenapa Anwar Tidak Boleh Jadi PM' (50 Reasons Why Anwar Cannot be PM).

Mat Zain (left) also said former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad may have been responsible for interfering with police investigations by his interviewing of four prostitutes and Azizan Abu Bakar, who was then alleged to have sexual liaison with Anwar.

The former top cop makes these claims in his latest open letter, which he sent to Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar today. Copies of the letter were also delivered to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

NONEOn Musa, Mat Zain said sometime on Sept 2, 1998, the former IGP, who was the investigating officer in Anwar's Sodomy I and abuse of power cases, made an affidavit on his investigations into the book and arrest of Nallakaruppan (on right in picture).

Mat Zain pointed specifically at paragraph nine of the affidavit, which states: "In conducting the investigations, apart from obtaining the testimony of witnesses, documentors, corroborative testimony and forensic testimony, seven witnesses have also made written testimony to police."

Mat Zain questioned why Musa, on Sept 2, 1998, said police had forensic testimony, but then he went on to admit, in an interview with Malaysiakini, to taking Anwar's blood sample on Oct 15, 1998.
"If what Musa had pledged in the paragraph is taken into consideration, including the forensic evidence, why is there a need for him to 'steal' the blood sample under the custody and control of one Dr Zahari Noor from Hospital Kuala Lumpur to conduct a DNA test on the infamous mattress?

"This shows that Musa had not obtained the forensic evidence to link Anwar. This also shows that Musa had not obtained the necessary evidence to brief Mahathir to convince the former premier."

Based on this, Mat Zain said, Musa should be investigated, or action taken against him for falsifying his affidavit and giving false evidence in Anwar's abuse of power trial.

Why didn't Musa stop Mahathir?

Mat Zain noted that while Musa has of late been making a lot of allegations into interference in the police affairs, which targeted Hishammuddin, the home minister only responded by questioning why Musa had raised this now.

Mat Zain in his letter went on to question why Musa himself did not stop Mahathir from interfering in police investigations when the alleged prostitutes and Azizan were taken to the PM's official residence in Seri Perdana.

NONEMahathir had admitted that this was so in Chapter 53 of his memoir, 'A Doctor in the House'.

"In Musa's affidavit, he had painted Nalla as a pimp in transporting the prostitutes for Nalla and the VIP (Anwar), Mahathir had said (in his memoir) as if he had control over the investigations.

"Musa should have objected to Mahathir having access to the witnesses, or bringing them to Sri Perdana as he should have realised the former premier had an personal interest in the outcome of the investigations as he was then premier, home minister and Umno president who may have felt threatened (by Anwar)," Mat Zain says in his letter.

Mat Zain had previously said that Mahathir could also be investigated for abetting present attorney-general (AG) Abdul Gani Patail and Musa for fabricating evidence or concealing material facts.

In citing Musa's admission in taking Anwar's blood sample, Mat Zain had said he himself had already briefed the former premier that former IGP Abdul Rahim Noor was responsible for Anwar's black-eye injury.

The prolonging of that affair, he claimed, had resulted in providing Abdul Gani, Musa and HKL doctor Dr Abdul Rahman Yusof time to fabricate evidence.
