PKR said regardless of the police’s excuse it no longer regulated rallies with the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012 regarding the fracas at Pakatan Rakyat's rally in Gombak, the onus was nevertheless on the police to ensure peace.
Batu Caves state assemblyperson Amirudin Shari (left) said that organisers had already done their part in regulating supporters in accordance with the PAA during the rally on the night of Dec 4.
"We (the organisers) had regulated the rally that night; we had 300 people on duty for security, road safety and logistics.
"But if you look at the video (of the event), the whole thing (fracas) only happened after the irresponsible party (Umno) charged into our compound.
"When things get physical, then the police must be responsible, because the police have the power (to maintain order by force) but we do not, so it is up to the police," he said at a press conference today.

Three people were injured after Umno Youth members gathered nearby clashed with Pakatan supporters at the rally.
Yesterday, Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah had said that the police no longer regulate rallies under the new law and rally organisers must give police 10-day notice.
He also denied allowing Umno Youth and Pakatan supporters to hold their gatherings side by side, but declined to say which side had breached the law.
'Pakatan provocateur is illogical'
Asked if Pakatan rally organisers had given the 10-day notice to the police as required by the law, Amirudin said the police were informed but was unsure how early it was done.
He added that organisers had also handed over request a day before the rally, urging police to take pre-emptive action when they discovered that Umno Youth was also going to turn up.
"But the police were a little late in responding, they did their job but they could have treated our feedback more seriously," he said.

He also rubbished Umno Youth's claim that it was conducting an election briefing nearby, blaming the provocation of the former on Pakatan.
"This is the first time I’d seen an election briefing being conducted by the roadside using loud hailers and holding up banners.
"Pakatan is the one which organised our programme, BN was the one which heckled us and all of the sudden it is Pakatan that was the provocateur, this is illogical," he said.
Amiruddin was accompanied by local villagers as well as Gombak Utara village chief Said Zakaria in condemning the attacks.
"We demand that Gombak Umno Youth chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin apologise for trying to bring the culture of gangsterism and insolence to our village and bringing it into disrepute..." said Said.
He also claimed that majority of the more than 100 Umno Youth members who turned up that night were outsiders.
Echoing him, Amiruddin called on Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to walk the talk of his against violence principle and take action against his members for heckling the rally.
"Pakatan is the one which organised our programme, BN was the one which heckled us and all of the sudden it is Pakatan that was the provocateur, this is illogical," he said.
