His car is of a different make, colour and even has a different license plate number, yet an automated enforcement system (AES) summons arrived at the home of Foo Teck Heng, instructing him to appear at the Magistrate’s Court to answer for speeding.

According to his police report, Foo, from Tangkak, Johor, was accused to have violated Section 79 (2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 by exceeding the speed limit at kilometre 204.6 of the North-South Highway at 8.04am on Oct 16.
Also, he said, the photograph on the summons showed a silver car, however, his was white.
“I was instructed to appear, either by myself or through a lawyer, at the Taiping Magistrate’s Court for driving a vehicle (with the registration plate) WJM 9999 over the speed limit of 110km/h.
“For your information, I was never at the location specified, (and) my car is not silver, but white,” his report read.
Advised not to go to court

“He (Foo) was shocked when he received the summons as he was not there (at the North-South Highway),” she said at the Serdang DAP service centre today.
She said she had advised Foo, who was not present at the press conference, not to go to court as there was a possibility the summons may be withdrawn.
“I will bring this issue up with the AES control centre and will write a letter to (Transport Minister) Kong Cho Ha informing him of this weakness in the system.
“I hope the AES would not only be cancelled but all summons issued be withdrawn,” she added.

He said more than 10,000 have paid their summons, from 274,000 summonses issued since the system began operating on Sept 23.
