There will be no racial discontent or friction if and when Pakatan Rakyat comes to power after the coming polls, said PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng.
Responding to the recent threat of 'racial riots' ala-May 13 from Wanita UMNO head Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, the former Health minister said it was the norm for BN leaders to raise the spectre of race riots.
"BN politicians who continue to use the May 13 racial riots as the bogey to scare or intimidate Malaysians into supporting them are completely out of date and doing a disservice to communal unity and nation-building," he told a PKR dinner event during the weekend.
Chua pointed out that the next general election was not about race or religion but about good governance and justice.
"Malaysians must therefore not fear exercising their rights to show who the boss is in this country," he added.
Chua said it made no sense for UMNO to instil the fear among Malays that they would lose political power, and reminded that top Pakatan Rakyat leaders such as Anwar Ibrahim and Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang were Malays.
"A Malay leader from the PR will also be the new Johor Mentri Besar," Chua, who is also Johor PKR chief, told the audience.
