Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim must speak up over the incident involving the demolishing of a shrine in a house in Sepang last month.
Despite the severity of the situation and the mass condemnation from both sides of the political divide, Tan Sri Khalid has chosen to keep silent up until now.
But with his exco Dr Xavier Jeyakumar now claiming 'acts bordering on sabotage' at play in the events leading to the demolition, the Menteri Besar has to react and respond.
What happened, whether it was sabotage or not, was totally unnecessary and insensitive. There was absolutely no need for the officers of MPS to do what they did, especially knowing full well the strong stand taken by Pakatan Rakyat in matters of this nature.
But there is now a bigger concern as to whether or not directives of the state are being deliberately ignored by its own staff. How can officers of MPS act squarely against express orders as done here? Why did they do it?
And more importantly, if this is true, why haven't they been taken to task and punished?
More demolitions to come?
I have been told that there are more demolitions of temples to come in Selangor within the next few weeks. In fact, it is said that there are plans to start next week.
The Menteri Besar must respond to this allegation forthwith. Is this true? If it is, what is the state government going to do about it? And again, how can this be given the express directives given by the state that there cannot be any such demolitions?
The Menteri Besar must put a stop to this and he must act fast. He must meet with all the local council chiefs and officials from the land office and demand that they follow orders. He should also show he is serious and act against those who disobey.
This is a serious matter. The Menteri Besar must take it seriously and react in a manner which would reflect sincerity and seriousness on part of his government in dealing with the problem.
Silence in situations like these by the Menteri Besar, is to my mind clearly unacceptable.
